The Bedford Amateur Radio Club (K5BED) has brought licensed amateur radio operators together in Bedford, Texas since 2005. We have been an ARRL-affiliated club since March 15, 2008, and today count around 50 licensed members of all ages and experience levels.
Public service is at the heart of what we do. Our volunteers provide communications for marathons, bicycle rides, and charity walks across the region, monitor Bedford’s outdoor warning sirens, and stay ready to support our community when normal communications fail. Between events, you’ll find us activating parks for Parks on the Air (POTA), chasing hidden transmitters on fox hunts, and helping new hams earn their licenses.
Emergency Communications
The club works in partnership with the Bedford Fire Department and the city’s Office of Emergency Management, providing trained amateur radio operators who can pass traffic when phones, internet and commercial systems are overloaded or down. Club members also participate in Tarrant County RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service).
